Benjamin Russell Hinds, son of Maxine (Morgan) and Walton Hinds of Madisonville, Texas passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019, in Lincoln Nebraska.\n\nBen is preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by a son, Benjamin Baker Hinds and granddaughter Hartley, his brother Greg(Alvin, TX), along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by loved ones including Melissa and Dennis Isbrandtsen (children, Ashley, Cameron, and Mariah), Katie and Jason Schroder (daughter, Madelyn), and his dog Finn.\n\nBen spent most of his life teaching high school English in the Houston area. He also taught for a year in southern and eastern Europe, traveling extensively, teaching many students. He served as a participating member and the board of directors of several community organizations throughout his life bringing positive changes wherever he could. One of his proudest accomplishments is the formation of the Palacios (TX) Community Garden system, a network of people and resources to provide practical solutions to food insecurity experienced in this area.\n\nSeveral have survived Hurricane Harvey and continue today. As a result of Hurricane Harvey, Ben was forced to relocate to Lincoln, Nebraska. He spent the remainder of his life mentoring and feeding homeless young adults, many of whom were turned away from their families because of their orientation. His presence has allowed many young men to find employment and better lives.
