Bianca A. Babchuk passed away on January 12, 2018 at an assisted living unit in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born September 30, 1923 to Alfredo and Carmela Favale in Naples, Italy, she immigrated to Kalamazoo, Michigan with her parents and older brother Aldo in 1930. \n\nShe earned a B.S. and M.A. in Sociology at Wayne State in Detroit and at Washington University in St. Louis, respectively. Bianca moved with her husband Dr. Nicholas Babchuk and son Wayne to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1959 where she taught sociology courses in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for over 30 years. She was also a respected member of the antique community in Lincoln where she collected, refurbished, and co-owned an antique business with her son. Bianca was truly an amazing woman in all respects as her friends and family can attest. \n\nShe was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband. \n\nShe is survived by her younger sister, Dr. Dora Marcus and spouse, her son and daughter-in-law Dr. Wayne and Mary Babchuk, her nephews Daryl Favale and Marcus Cafagna and their spouses and children, and nieces Suzanne Favale and Laura Marcus and their spouses. \n\nIn lieu of flowers please make donations to the University of Nebraska Foundation, 1010 Lincoln Mall, Suite 300, Lincoln NE 68508 for the Nicholas Babchuk Endowment for Excellence in Research by Sociology Graduate Students.
