Elmer V. Armknecht Jr., 72, of Johnson, NE passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in Lincoln, NE.\n\nElmer Jr., the son of Elmer Sr. and Norma (Marshall) Armknecht, was born January 5, 1950 in Tecumseh, NE. He attended Johnson Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1968.\n\nOn May 24, 1969, Elmer Jr. was united in marriage to Mary Jo Feichtinger in Tecumseh. They were blessed with three children: Terri, Chris and Samantha. He served in the United States Army from May 29, 1969 to May 25, 1973. During his military time, he served in Vietnam from November 13, 1969 to October 29, 1970. After his honorable discharge, Jr. and Jo made their home outside of Johnson where they farmed hand in hand for over 40 years. Elmer retired from the United States Post Office after 23 years.\n\nIn his earlier years, he truly enjoyed playing men's slow pitch softball in his blue jeans and earned the nickname "Dinger" for his homeruns. Throughout the years, some of Jr.'s hobbies include coaching boys' baseball, collecting guns and coins, and doing puzzles. He took great pride in his vehicles especially his red GMC trucks. He also looked forward to going to Lorton on Wednesdays with his buddies. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and going to their activities. Jr. was a member of the American Legion, NRA, USSA, JBAC and Wounded Warriors Project.\n\nHe is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Jo Armknecht of Johnson; children: Terri Bishop and husband Mitch of Auburn, Chris Armknecht of Johnson, and Samantha Root and husband Travis of Dakota Dunes, SD; grandchildren: Jarred Stutheit and wife Shanda of Johnson, Kylie Stutheit of Lincoln, Isabell Bishop of Auburn, Sage Armknecht of Johnson, and Landry Root of Dakota Dunes; great grandchildren: Oaklynn and Emery Stutheit of Johnson; brothers: Daryl Armknecht and wife Sue of Tecumseh, Fred Armknecht and wife Pam of Johnson, and Gary Armknecht and wife Martha of Russellville, AR; father-in-law, Bud Feichtinger of Seneca, KS; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Armknecht Sr.; mother, Norma Armknecht; step mother, Victoria Armknecht; grandson, Tyler Armknecht; and niece, Angela Hardy.\n\nPrivate services with full military honors will be held at later date.\n\nMemorials may be directed to the family and will be designated at a later date.
