Glen Frederick Hartman

–

Lincoln, NE

Lincoln resident Glen Frederick Hartman was born August 26, 1921, to Philip and Edith (Swygard) Hartman at Medora, Iowa. He was an only child reared on a farm in south central Iowa. He attended a country school, graduated from Indianola High School where he was a member of FFA and attended Simpson College.

On a hot August day in 1948 he married Florence Margueriete Eastin. They established their home on two acres in a small community about a mile from his parents. Two children, a son and daughter were born to this union.

Glen farmed 160 acres with his father and they operated a small grade A dairy farm. It was a sad day in October 1967 when Glen and his mother witnessed the tragic death of his father in a power take off accident. He and Margueriete continued farming the home place after the death of his father and until his mother passed away following a stroke in 1977.

Glen and Margueriete moved to Lincoln in 1978 so they could be near their children, grandchildren and many other family members as they planned for their retirement years. They became members of the College View Church where Glen served as deacon.

Glen worked part-time at Kuehl's Midwest Distributors and a couple other small businesses for several years after coming to Lincoln. He loved gardening and would plant a huge garden every summer to supply the needs of family, can and freeze for the winter and would sell the extra to others.

Glen and Margueriete celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together two months before Margueriete passed away in 2013. Glen is survived by son, Glendal Hartman and his wife Sandy of Lincoln; daughter, Joyce Jesse and her husband Jamie of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Melissa Huenergardt and her husband Sam of Kansas, Carissa Hartman, and Christopher Jesse; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Chloe Huenergardt; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margueriete; and brothers and sisters-in-law that were very close to him.

Glen was a very kind gentle person who never complained and who always had a ready smile. He was a hard worker and always kept himself busy with some project. He lived a good, long life which his children are
proud of and want to emulate. His faith was strong, and he awaits that glorious day when loved ones and families will be reunited to spend eternity in Heaven. He loved his family and we will deeply miss him.

Funeral service is 10:30 am, Monday, July 16, 2018 at College View Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4801 Prescott Avenue. Burial will be at the College View Cemetery.
