Monte L. Coonrod passed away at his home on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was born December 7, 1944 to Harold E. and Virginia (Waltman) Coonrod in Fairbury, Nebraska. Monte graduated from Mahaska High School in Mahaska, Kansas in 1962. He went on to attend Junior College in Fairbury, Nebraska. Monte married Linda Atkins in 1964. Though they later separated the two remained close friends. He worked as a carpenter with Don Huber at Huber Construction. His knack for working with his hands extended past his profession and into his hobbies. Monte had a love for fishing and a passion for building guns and restoring motorcycles. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Though he found joy in many things, his true talent lied in woodworking. Monte’s heart worked through his hands, creating jewelry boxes and clocks for those he loved. Even when a disability later in life made woodworking difficult, he did not let the challenge of the work deter him. Though the family who he is survived by are listed below, Monte was loved by more people than what could fit on any list. As a man of few words he embodied the saying, at the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel. Monte made those around him feel loved. He will be remembered by family and friends for his caring smile and infectious laugh.

Monte is survived by his children, Christy Syfie (Brian) and Clint Coonrod all of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, CJ Wells (Dara), Whitney Miller (Jason), Kyle Coonrod, Abby Siebert (Rick), and Halle Syfie; great-grandchildren, Emerson, Titus, Austyn, Berkeley, Piper, Tatum, Jaelyn, and Preston; brother, Joel Coonrod (Brenda) of Eagle Rock, MO; along with nieces, Natasha Anderson (Ben) and Alisha Lavicky (Brad).

He was preceded in death by his parents.
