Paul Thomas Gordon, 72, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Bryan West Hospital. Paul was born December 17, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, to Ward Cassity Gordon and Geraldine Norma Richardson.
Paul remained in California until leaving to attend college at Brigham Young University (BYU). He left college for two years to serve a proselyting mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Eastern States Mission from June 1971 to June 1973. Following his mission, Paul resumed his education at BYU where he met and married Ann Barringer in 1975. After completing an undergraduate degree, he continued his education at National University in Lombard, Illinois, supporting his family by working custodial jobs in the early morning hours. Paul and Ann were blessed with two children, David and Ashley, before Paul graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1980. Paul moved his family to North Carolina to set up a Chiropractic practice and be closer to Ann's family. They welcomed two more sons into their family, Seth and Jacob.
Paul enjoyed being a Chiropractor and owning his own business. He was an early adopter of computers and maintained that interest throughout his life. He also enjoyed activities such as fishing, hunting, four wheeling and recounting the antics of his youth.
Paul and Ann divorced in 1990 after 15 years of marriage and Ann later relocated to Utah. In 1991 Paul became unable to work as a Chiropractor due to a back injury and moved to Utah to be closer to his children.
Paul moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1996 and married his wife, Joline. Six years later he suffered a life changing stroke that left him disabled. After lengthy rehabilitation, he returned home and enjoyed actively serving in church assignments, researching family history, pursuing various investment/entrepreneurial ventures and giving grandkids rides on his scooter.
His condition deteriorated over the years and in August 2023, he moved to Hillcrest Firethorn Long-Term Care Facility where his needs could best be met. This was a great blessing and helped him enjoy the last year of his life. He enjoyed the food, daily opportunities for socialization, and participating in the activities. He soon made many friends both with staff and residents, and was selected to be the president of the resident council.
Paul has been released from the pain, suffering, and limitations of his mortal body and we rejoice in his newfound freedom.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Joline Gordon; children, David (Jessica) Gordon, Ashley (Leonard) Hanks, Seth (Jovita) Gordon, Jacob (Lauren) Gordon, Leon Castro, Jason (Tere) Castro, Aaron (Katelyn) Castro; grandchildren, Caleb Gordon, Spencer Gordon, Emma Gordon, Katelyn (Aaron) Bellows, Matthew Hanks, Penn Hanks, Harlow Hanks, Felix Gordon, Anna Jane Gordon, Henry Gordon, Daniel Castro, Lily Castro, Christopher Castro, Ashlan Castro, Kinley Castro; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Carol Oertle, Linda (Doug) Harding, Robert Gordon, Von (Jeanny) Gordon, Trinka (Thor) Evjen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
