Richard H Brown

Richard H. Brown, 65 of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on June 11, 2014. He died a peaceful, natural death surrounded by his children.

Richard was born on October 21, 1948 in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was the second of three children born to Dr. Dorliska 'Doc' W. Brown Jr. and Virginia Lee (Knight) Brown. Richard graduated from Fredericksburg High School where he played football, was president of the German club, and was an Eagle Scout. After high school, Richard moved to Austin and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He had many friends, was always involved in social activities and attended a program that focused on creative writing. He graduated with a degree in creative playwriting in 1971. Richard worked for a trucking company in Denver after college, and he later maintained a sign painting business in Fredericksburg. His artistic abilities were most prominent with pen and ink drawings and paintings which he sold in Fredericksburg and Austin. While living in Austin, Richard met Bonnie (Ries) and they were married from 1974 - 1992. Four children were born of this union to include Vanessa (Roof), Richard Jr., Jessica, and Lauren.

Richard entertained others with his charismatic personality and colorful stories. Whether true or mostly true, his stories were always enjoyable and left everyone with a smile. Richard had a marked sweet tooth that was comforted with a Coke, chocolate, or a minimum of 10 scoops of sugar in his coffee. When his sweet tooth was unruly, it was tamed with a few shots of Tabasco sauce. He loved art, rock and roll music and his children. Richard's life was tragically changed in 1988 when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident where he sustained a head injury. Richard was unable to care for himself and has resided in nursing care facilities since 1996. Richard remained in Texas until 2008 at which time he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to reside closer to his children.

Richard is survived by his children and his brothers. Richard's children include Vanessa Roof and her husband Chad of Lincoln, Nebraska and their three children Benjamin, Morgan, and Andrew; Richard Brown of Los Angeles, California; Jessica Brown and her daughter Lillian of Dallas, Texas; and Lauren Brown of Denver, Colorado. Richard's brothers include Dorliska W. Brown III and his wife Mary of Austin and their two children, Dor IV and Garrett; and Ed and Gerry Brown of Austin and their two children Ed Jr. and Jenna and her husband and two children.
