Richard Luke

Richard Allen Luke, 84, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on July 5, 2024.
Richard was born the youngest of three children on January 14, 1940, to Dale Trowbridge Luke and Agnes Lillie Silence in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Campion Academy in 1958 and went on to study Music Education at Walla Walla University, completing his degree in 1962.

After graduation, Richard began his teaching career at Glendale Adventist Academy, Glendale, California. In the years following, his teaching skills led him to Mile High Academy, Denver, Colorado, Forest Lake Academy, Apopka, Florida, Campion Academy, Loveland, Colorado, and Mesa State University, Grand Junction, Colorado. For a time, he also worked at Gates & Sons as Personnel Director.

Richard met Nadine Louise Schimpf while attending Campion Academy. Richard and Nadine married and went on to have three children, Michelle, Michael, and Peter. Several years after Nadine’s death, Richard married Gayle Marie Barber and they were together until her death in May 2024.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Luke and Agnes Silence, wife, Nadine Schimpf, brother Aubrey Eugene Luke, and wife, Gayle Barber.

He is survived by his sister, Myrna Hill of Gentry, AR and husband, George, his children, Michelle (Miki) Shockley of Loveland, CO and husband, Henry, Michael Luke of Lincoln, NE and wife, Kandra, Peter Luke of Lincoln, NE and wife, Jill, his grandchildren, Andrea VandeVere, Sydney Leffler and husband, Andrew, Ben VandeVere, Eddie Luke, Zachary Luke, Zoey Luke, and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

Richard was a deeply beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and teacher. He will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at Piedmont Park Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4801 A St, Lincoln, NE on July 27 at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Glendale Adventist Academy, Campion Academy, Forest Lake Academy, and Mile High Academy.
