Torrance J. Banks Obituary (1973 - 2024)

With sadness, we write about the untimely passing of Torrance J Banks. Torrance joined his father Theodore Arthur Barbee May 9, 2024. Torrance was born on December 1, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois to Ella Mae Banks and Theodore Arthur Barbee. Torrance loved with all his heart and soul. In his own words “I have a huge heart”. His greatest joys were his children Kiara and Trevin Banks and being the greatest big brother to Jarwin and Cierra. Torrance graduated from Lincoln High School in 1992. Following graduation Torrance spent over 30 years of his journey marked by his contribution to the world of hands-on labor. Torrance was most recently employed at Zoetis. Friends and family were the cornerstone of Torrance’s life. He shared 25 years as the husband to Heather Banks, until his passing. Together, they raised Heather’s children, Cody, Zac and Seth Granfield. Torrance found peace and joy early on through basketball and track. Torrance was always up for a round of golf, conversation, or a cigar surrounded by friends. Torrance is remembered for his ability to make friends in a room of strangers through laughter, conversation, and dancing. Torrance is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Arthur Barbee; grandmother, Lula Beatrice Barbee; grandfather, Frank Barbee; grandfather, Robert Banks; aunt, Connie Jean Brown; cousins, Theodorick D. Brown, Carl Barbee, and Shaun Barbee. Honored to continue Torrance’s legacy his daughter, Kiara Banks; son, Trevin Banks; wife, Heather Banks (children: Cody, Zac and Seth Granfield); mother, Ella Barbee; grandmother, Irene Griffin; brother, Jarwin Banks (life partner, Lacie); sister, Cierra Barbee; nieces, Ma’leah Banks, Tyerra Barbee, Zyonnah Barbee, and Jamylah Barbee; nephews, Tre’Sean Barbee and Jarwin Banks Jr.; along with numerous family and friends. The family will host a memorial to celebrate Torrance’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Torrance you have earned your peace. We love you and promise to maintain your light.
